Rural Planning Issue Tour

This tour will hopefully visit a local barramundi farm at harvest time to see first hand the growth in Aquaculture in the Top End. If due to seasonal fluctuations access to a barramundi farm isn’t available this bus tour will explore Darwin’s rural hinterland looking at the planning challenges of managing the urban/rural interface.

Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Tour

TA bus tour visiting sites of cultural significance in and around Darwin. Custodians of Larrakia lands discuss issues such as traditional historical perspectives of the CBD, the preservation of cultural heritage during periods of rapid growth, impacts of urbanisation on sacred sites, and Native Title.

This tour is for people who have worked, working with or intend to work with indigenous to have the opportunity to engage with an indigenous community. It is not a tourist tour and limited spaces will be available.

- Arrive at Bathurst Island Airport
Introduction to Nguiu Community - 9.10am
- Museum
'Skin Talk' to give an understanding of the importance of clan relationships and the impact on day to day life.Interpretation of the creation story and important spiritual beliefs and ceremonial practices.
Explanations regarding the artefacts in the museum, their practical uses and spiritual significance. - 10.00am

Including welcome to country and smoking ceremony. - 11.00am
