The Organising Committee and Congress Secretariat have taken the following measures to lessen the impact PIA 2009 will have on the environment.

  • Use of email and website communication between committee members, secretariat, delegates, sponsors, exhibitors, presenters and service providers
  • Online expression of interest, registration, call for papers, abstract template and speakers zone to reduce printing
  • Electronic confirmations and invoices to delegates, sponsors and exhibitors
  • Utilising E-Marketing opportunities
  • Reusable materials where possible such as delegate satchels and lanyards

Architecture Design Elements

  • Large eaves and overhangs will result in a 15% saving on air-conditioning consumption
  • Direction of building minimises solar radiation from entering the building to reduce cooling costs
  • Plantation timbers used in construction
  • Energy efficient star rating appliances
  • Provision for recycling material including glass and paper
  • A Siphonic Roof Drainage system has been designed with 50% of the roof drainage discharging directly to the lagoon to assist with the flushing process
  • 25% water usage reduction with installation of reduced capacity size dual flush cisterns, urinals and flow control taps. Reduced greenhouse emissions with the installation of a high efficiency gas boosted hot water generation plant
